Aquatic Wildlife at Angel of the North Fishing Lakes

Water provides a habitat for an enormous range of species. Some live in water, others near water, and some require water only for certain parts of their life cycle. Much goes unnoticed under the surface of the water, and most people are therefore unaware of the diverse range of species that colonise most areas of water, from small pools to large lakes.

Angel of the North Fishing Lakes aims to both preserve and introduce aquatic habitats. Our current species list has been divided into three sections, listed below: .

If you have visited Angel of the North Fishing Lakes and have spotted something not on the lists, please let us know!

The Field Studies Council publishes a range of useful guides, including:

  • Guide to commoner water plants
  • Freshwater name trail

Both serve as guides to identification and likely habitats.
