Website Accessibility Features
The website for Angel of the North Fishing Lakes has been designed so as to be as easy to use as possible. We have reviewed the WAI guidelines for Web Accessibility and tried to incorporate as many of the accessibility features as possible, including:
- providing ALT attributes for images (providing a textual description of the image)
- using CSS rather than tables to control the layout and presentation of the site
- creating a logical tab order (to reach elements without the use of the mouse)
- providing textual equivalents of any graphic elements (e.g. the 'tab' menu items at the head of the page are also presented at the foot of the page as text)
- using relative font sizes (to enable the changing of text size via the browser)
- refraining from using colour to convey information
- providing a list of accessibility features (this page!)
- using contrasting foreground and background colours
- marking up content correctly, including headings and lists
- dividing large content blocks into smaller blocks
- providing a site map / contents
- avoiding animated or flickering images
- including characters between adjacent links (to assist screen reading software)
- providing navigation bars (to the top and to the left of each screen)
- using a consistent style across pages
